TOPSoccer, is a community-based soccer program for athletes with disabilities that impair their ability to participate in recreational soccer programs. It is designed to provide an opportunity for children and adults with special needs to play soccer in a structured environment that is safe, fun, supportive, and inclusive. Practices are structured with a group warm-up and then small group stations with specialized drills or games!
DO ALL PLAYERS PLAY?
One of the goals of the TOPSoccer program is to be as flexible as possible in order to make the experience a positive one for each player. We try to accommodate to each child’s skill level and encourage players to play the way they feel most comfortable.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DOES MY CHILD NEED?
The athlete should wear the provided shirt and their own closed-toe shoes and shin guards. Soccer balls are provided, but please feel free to bring your own if desired.
WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE A GAME?
We encourage you to have your child at the game at least 10 minutes before the scheduled game time. You and your child should check in with the coach on arrival. If your child’s buddy is not present, a coach will assign an adult to assist him or her during the warm up time.
WHAT IF THERE ARE TIMES MY CHILD DOES NOT WANT TO PARTICIPATE?
As mentioned previously, we try to be very flexible and there is never pressure for your child to participate. We realize there are times when children are tired or upset and we want you to feel comfortable making the decision about your child’s level of participation. Please let your coaches know how they can be helpful in these situations.
